$200,000 well spent?

Today I got copies of some of the documents that you saw the Selectmen using in deliberating their latest Brewster Hall warrant article.

Don’t build it and they will come

At the last Selectmen’s meeting, the chairman spent a lot of time explaining to us how people actually go to the Town Offices to pay bills, as if

What the heck is that and why do we need one?  It started as two separate ideas:

Not Restoration?

I wasn’t able to get to the Selectmen’s meeting, so my reaction to their discussion of a potential Brewster Hall warrant article was delayed until I could see the streaming video on the town website.  The Town Manager

Yesterday I submitted a Right to Know request for all documents related to Brewster Hall since my last request on October 24.

How ’bout that historic Wolfeboro

It’s customary to use the terms “voter” and “taxpayer” interchangeably, and in most towns that’s reasonably accurate.  Not so in Wolfeboro,

More about the roof structural repairs

At the Selectmen’s working session, a citizen questioned whether the structural repairs to the roof were included in the estimate, and whether they were in the $4 million plan and the $6.8 million plans.  The Town Manager said that they … Continue reading

8,000 Gallons of Oil

That’s what he said.  I asked him to check his numbers.  Yes, that’s the estimate – 8,000 gallons of oil per year.  It will require a two thousand gallon tank.

The numbers game

At last Thursday’s Selectmen’s meeting, some numbers were thrown out to try to discredit my belief in the results of the Tocag survey.  That day in a letter to the paper I had made the point that an election and … Continue reading

How the trust works

Since the newspaper published the essential idea, I did some research and developed some details after consulting with an attorney.  If I got the details straight, many of the provisions are specified by the “grantor” (you the voter), and are … Continue reading

Who do you trust?

You may recall that awhile back I proposed that the town establish a trust to oversee the preservation of Brewster Hall. At the core of that idea was the notion that it would be a way that dedicated supporters could … Continue reading

BOS Town Hall Working Session

The town hall discussion tonight went pretty much as anticipated.  The Town Manager backed away from the PFIC idea, and the Selectmen focused on the $2.7 million modified “First Floor with Exterior”.

In the News

Well, this week we are hearing from some old “Friends” who are getting around to responding to the spate of opposition in recent editions.

Latest Phasing Activity

Latest documents obtained under NH Right to Know statute (RTK) indicate that the town manager has received a new estimate from NCA architects for first floor with exterior that excludes finishing the interior of the annex.  That reduces the cost … Continue reading

The newspaper will come out tomorrow with details about a revised proposal from PFIC.

PFIC Proposal

I’ve obtained a copy of the PFIC Proposal.  They only proposed doing the full $4 million restoration for a fixed annual lease price of $393,534.

BOS Meeting Tonight

The BOS meeting was relatively uneventful with respect to the town hall issue, but not without cause for reflection on the sad state of affairs that surrounds it.

Who Needs Your Vote?

Wolfeboro politics has taken a turn for the worse. The pieces of a potential strategy to further marginalize voters started to take shape at the recent Board of Selectmen meeting.

Public-Private Redefined

At tonight’s BOS meeting, Mr. Owen presented a third party financing plan for Brewster Hall.

An Alternate Plan

In early September, I drafted a BMH Alternative that could result in preservation of Brewster Hall with town offices, but spare the taxpayers from the cost of the historic preservation part.

Structural Issues?

The resounding theme from McGinley Kalsow was the unqualified assertion that BMH was “structurally sound” and will stand for another 100 years.  Indeed, as far as I can tell, there were no major structural fixes in their plan. When NCA … Continue reading
